What is MIM

Metal injection molding or MIM is a manufacturing process that combines the versatility of plastic injection molding with the strength and integrity of machined, pressed or otherwise manufactured small and complex metal parts. The smaller and the more complex the workpiece is the more cost savings can be achieved form MIM compared to other conventional manufacturing processes.
Competing processes include pressed powder, investment casting, turning and machining.

What MIM can do: applications

MIM sees a wide array of applications in many traditional and new industries, such as weapon manufacture, auto industry, electronics, telecommunication, surgical implements and even finds its own place in aerospace.
A recent rise in using MIM to fabricate cosmetic, large volume consumer products or their components has called for a new round of heavy investment and capacity expansion.
